David Street Station A shared vision of the City, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Old Yellowstone (redevelopment) District, the project was conceived as a public-private partnership and serves as the centerpiece of the downtown revitalization efforts.The program emphasizes engaging cultural and seasonal activities that reflect the region's affinity for outdoor life. The design responds to local identity – referencing the nearby mountains, the American West, and the city's energy industry heritage – all while creating a flexible, inclusive civic hub. The design welcomes visitors from all directions. Entry gateways frame views into the plaza and are flanked by treed berms. While the architectural components define the exterior spaces and are clad in regional materials applied in unconventional ways. A central promenade is string-lit and reinforces site circulation, provides intuitive wayfinding and a location for donor recognition in the form of an on-going art installation. Two main program zones are divided by the promenade – one side features a performance pavilion with terraced concert lawn; and on one side and an ice rink (in winter) that transforms into a splash pad (in summer). A support facility occupies the heart of the site and includes restrooms, ticketing, and maintenance functions on the ground level, with a rooftop deck above offers panoramic views and a V.I.P. area for events. In warm months, the splash pad offers dramatic water play with expansive views across the site. In winter the city's holiday tree occupies the same space – protecting the fountain – and forming an island within the skate rink that evokes the illusion of skating on a pond.
